Restocking fee?

I am a particular clothing item/sweatshirt that has a high return rate due to the customer not looking at our detailed size chart (with various models showing their height, each wearing different sizes to show how they fit). It is getting ridiculous - many customers order 2 sizes and return one. I know that can't be prevented but I'd like to institute a 10% restocking fee, unless we made an error.

Is there an easy way to make the customer aware of this? (They are not going to click on our return policy.)

To make it more tricky, we do try to keep these at Amazon FBA. If it runs out we change to FBM.

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Jackie

Hey @Seller_K3nYVYhHbw1gy,

Its hard to say with out knowing the exact listing. However, I would include more material that revolves around the size or sizing.

Perhaps images or charts that might help your potential customers make their decision.

Amazon Policy is very clear: A Seller may ONLY withhold a "Restocking Fee" IF the item is Returned in "Materially Different Condition than when originally shipped".

To repeat: The Seller MAY NOT withhold Restocking Fees if the product was Returned back in the same Condition as when originally shipped.

This is a change from how Amazon originally allowed Restocking Fees on Returns, and completely ignores the concept of, and even the actual meaning of the words "Restocking Fees".

"Restocking Fees" were originally intended to provide partial reimbursement for the expenses incurred by the Seller when processing the order, as well as the costs of processing the Return. Those days are long gone...

Now, your only way to recoup anything in these situations is that if a Buyer initiates a Return using a Return Reason that makes the responsibility for the error on the Buyer, such as "Bought by mistake", we reply that since the Return was not due to any Seller Error, the original invoiced Postage would be withheld from the Refund.

And that is the most you can withhold if the item was Returned back in the same Condition as originally shipped. Since withholding the postage you already paid, it seems only Fair and easily understandable by most Buyers, and in our experience the Buyers DO accept the Loss of original invoiced Postage when the Return was their own fault.

However... Even this may be reversed by Amazon should the Buyer fight it.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Amazon does not care about the seller because if there are no buyers than you wouldn't be a seller anyway. Eventually Amazon is going to force you to pay for the item for the buyer and give it away to them for free since they find it "inconvenient" to even return it to Koh''s or Whole Foods.

They return everything because they can and because seller are forced to pay for the return. Many people buy just for fun and because they know that the return shipping is free.
